During Anne’s 40-year-plus journalism career, she has produced countless local and national radio programs including several town halls fostering public discourse about issues that challenge our communities including food insecurity, school bullying, homelessness and the opioid overdose crisis. In 2019 she won a Webster award for her documentary On Gladys Avenue as well as awards over the years from documentaries from the New York Radio Festival, Gabriel Awards and Third Coast Festivals. Anne is also well known for her mentorship of colleagues. Presently Anne produces stories that most often are rooted in BC for national CBC radio programs such as the Current and elevates stories from local and regional BC programs for national audiences to hear on As It Happens.
Anne’s work around poverty and food insecurity specifically, has had an indelible impact on the social fabric of British Columbia. She is the producer who first had the idea of having a special day of programming to raise funds for British Columbia Food Banks. The idea was subsequently adopted by CBC local and regional programs across Canada. The first event in 1986 raised $462 as well as several boxes of canned food donations for the relatively new Vancouver Food Bank. Flash forward to this past year when $3,037,402.22 was raised for food banks across British Columbia. From its humble beginning until now, over $27 million has been raised for Food Banks BC from the compassionate and generous CBC audience. Anne has continued to be the lead Producer of CBC British Columbia’s annual event, now called Make the Season Kind.
