The award honours a BC individual or organization that makes a significant contribution to journalism in the province or addresses a community’s needs and benefits via journalism. In determining the recipient of the Good award, the Foundation will consider the achievements and contributions to societal good of journalism educators, news reporters and managers, media organizations and their business leaders.
Define “significant contributions”
- Nominee’s work must have weight, import and impact
- Work must be recognized by peers and the public
- Work must reach broad, diverse audiences
- Nominee has achieved leadership in journalistic community and community at large
Define “community needs and benefits”
- Nominee’s work has changed social conditions, moved governments, resulted in greater justice for disadvantaged people/communities, redressed historic wrongs, enhanced basic rights of access to services for citizens, held governments and corporate institutions to a high standard.
Define “improvements to societal good”
- Nominee’s work has led to significant improvements in public services such as education, healthcare, childcare, policing, environmental protection, the arts, transportation and civic infrastructure.
