Supporting the next generation of Indigenous storytellers

Applications are now being accepted for the 2026 Indigenous Journalism Awards. Scroll down below for more info and the button to submit your application

Recognising the significant historical and contemporary barriers to Indigenous people in journalism, the Jack Webster Foundation is pleased to offer cash awards to Indigenous journalism students and emerging Indigenous journalists to help support their studies, and/or their careers.

Thanks to generous support from the BC Teachers’ Federation, these awards are open to Indigenous students at any of these BC journalism schools: UBC, BCIT, KPU, TRU, Langara, and those with a declared minor in journalism from UVic. Post-secondary students who are enrolled in communications, media, or writing programs, at other post-secondary institutions who are using these courses as a pathway towards journalism may also apply. Emerging and freelance Indigenous journalists in the first five years of their careers are also eligible to apply.

Apply now for the 2026 awards before the deadline of Sunday, November 22nd, 2026
