New Executive Director announced for the Jack Webster Foundation
After 25 years at the helm of the Jack Webster Foundation, the Foundation bids farewell and wishes a happy retirement for Nora Newlands who has worked tirelessly in upholding and awarding excellence in BC journalism. Stepping into the Executive Director role, the Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Janet Mitchell. Janet comes to the Foundation with a solid marketing, communication and event planning background in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sector. Her community involvement spans across athletic to education endeavours, and many others in between, including sitting on committees for Kwantlan Polytecnic University, the YWCA and the Thunderbirds Track and Field Club.

It has done so through the volunteer efforts of individuals drawn from a cross-section of the community who work to uphold the independence and integrity of the Foundation and its activities. Special thanks to the Foundation's Trustees for their dedication to the mission of the Jack Webster Foundation, to recognize and encourage excellent in journalism.

Foundation board retirements in 2017 include:
Mike Bernard, formerly involved with the BC Newspaper Association, served the Foundation for 18 years. Deb Sweeney has been associated with the Foundation since 1991 and a trustee since 1993 and has served a Co-chair and Dinner Committee chair; Neil Soper whose radio career intersected with Jack's and who has been a board member since 2003 and has also served as a Co-chair; and Don Babick who has also served the Foundation as a co-chair and who first joined the Board in 1993 to 1995 and then again from 2007 upon his return to Vancouver.

The Board of Trustees comprises a group of community-minded individuals with backgrounds in business, law, finance, the media, community service and others. The Jury Panel is composed of journalists and lay members. The adjudication process is completely independent of the Trustees.
